Our Values

Dumbreck Outdoor Playbarn is a real barn, in a real stable yard, with real mud.

This is a place where urban kids get to invent, explore and get dirty, and where much-loved toys get to go on big outdoor adventures.

Outdoor play is essential for children. Not only does it improve physical health, resilience is developed through taking and managing risks, self-esteem and confidence are increased through free play and problem solving, and being closer to nature calms children and improves wellbeing.  

At Dumbreck, our ethos is Reuse, Reduce and Recycle. All our plastic toys are second-hand and we don't throw things away if they are broken but still much-loved.

We also love to make our own toys. Our police station is made from an old cot, our pirate ship was a leaky dinghy from the Lochwinnoch Sailing Club, our water play is old whisky barrels and gutter pipes, and our mud kitchen is out of old hay pallets from our stable yard. Our aim is to show children that the world is full of possibilities, even when resources are limited.
